All signed up!

As I told all of you before..this blog is a journey. Ever since putting up this blog, I've received tremendous support from friends and family. I'm not receiving orders by the buckload yet but I'm grateful for the few orders here and there. At least I have this out there. Like in any business there has to be a starting point. When I started to worry, hubs said 'You must have confidence, patience and think positive'. I couldn't agree with him more.

Well I've managed to sign up for this week's Wilton Course 1: Basics of Decorating. I already have some basic skills in decorating but in order to learn course 2 :Flowers and Cake design and course 3 Gumpaste and fondant, I need to complete Course 1 first. So this is my receipt all paid for.

I had to delve into my savings and a little help from hubs in order to do this. I thought I may as well use the money for something that I love doing and acquire skills for further income purposes rather than waste it on paying a maid every month. I guess staying home was kind of important for me even though I miss working very much. It just is such a big change from being ambitious, independant, earning a considerable amount of money and ahead in my career to staying home with a small child. I had to sacrifice a lot to be where I am today.

That said I also enjoy my baby like soo much! It really is indescribable. My friends probably think I talk about my baby ALL the time. Well that's because she is my WORK now and being a workaholic I love talking about my best work yet!

So what about this cake business you may ask? Besides being inspired by a lot of people, it is a more of a channel for me to be ME. I've always had an artistic side but never actually acted on it (besides my singing that is :)) I figured this would be the best way to go about it without sacrificing some family time. Plus ever since starting breastfeeding, I LOOOOOOVE cake (perhaps a bit too much actually ! ) I think doing this would make me get sick of it eventually LOL! #betterformydiet

Here I will describe what goes into the Wilton Course One: Decorating Basics. This was what was in the brochure :)

WELCOME CAKE LOVERS!

Hi all !

I can assure you that what you are about to see is an honest, real journey about my cake and cake decorating experience. I would like friends and family to come and join me in this journey. I know there are many blogs out there about food and baking. I'm not suprised because it is a wonderful thing to blog about.

I have been baking since I was a little girl. I remember distinctively the times when my mother would let me help her with baking delicious home made cakes. Since then I have been baking numerous times but mostly for personal consumption. It's been 3 years back when I started taking orders mostly from friends. Now ever since having a family and a baby of my own, baking has once again started taking centre stage and it has basically allowed me the convenience of staying home and spending time with my child as well as earning some side income.

I have recently decided to join the famous Wilton's Method Cake Decorating Courses at Wisma ICCA (International Centre of Cake Artistry) to further hone the skills that I already have. Classes start next weekend and it's four 2 hour classes every Saturday morning. I believe I will learn a lot more from these classes. It's something that I've always wanted to do and it goes with my resolution this year to improve on my skills. Another thing that I want to do is to join a bridal make-up course but that's another story (or blog!).

Anywhooo..like I said, classes will start soon and honestly, I'm excited! I would like to thank my hubby for helping me take care of our 9 month old baby for those mere two hours each week.I really does mean a lot for me to have two hours of ME time.

Here's where I announce that I'm also starting up my cake business! I will include in this blog my cake baking services for very reasonable introductory prices but that will give me a chance to further expand my skills :) I must say so far people love my cakes not that I'm tooting my own horn ;) Plus I've always found homemade cakes to be the most delicious compared to store or bakery bought ones. It's almost like you can feel the love baked right into the cakes! The best thing is that I get to bake and make people happy on their most important occassions. So anyone interested in taking up my services, I will happily bake and design cakes to your desire. Guaranteed yummy ok! :D

Please keep visiting for more posts and thanks for all the support!

Love,

May
